AMERIKATSI

AMERIKATSI POSTER.jpg

AMERIKATSI is a story of a rarely told diaspora. And the telling of it, the quality, is equally rare and original.  Beautifully designed, acted, directed, executed - it’s told with such subtlety and delicate emotion that you’ll find yourself moved in ways you’ll never see coming. You empathize with these characters, you end up sharing in their longing, and connecting to them in unexpected ways.  It’s a transportive movie that connects you across time, culture, and ethnicity.  Profoundly human and bursting with heart, and clearly, deeply personal. The film begins with such charm and seeming innocence, and by the end it was so convincing in its message of shared humanity, that it’s hard to reflect on it as anything but masterful.  Nihilism and cynicism are easy bedfellows in today’s world, but Amerikatsi, without being saccharine and without any naïveté, refutes these - humbly, joyfully, and defiantly.  - Grand Jury Statement, Woodstock Film Festival, 2022
Amerikatsi is an Armenian American co-production and was filmed entirely in Armenia during the Pandemic in 2020. Boasting an international cast including writer/director Michael Goorjian; Spanish star Hovik Keuchkerian; Russian actors Nelli Uvarova and Mikhail Trukhin; and an incredibly eclectic group of talented Armenians lead by Narine Grigoryan and Jeanne-Pier Nshanian, Amerikatsi is the story of repatration through one man's search for home and a sense of belonging.  It has garnered numerous awards including the Grand Jury Prize for best picture and best cinematography at Woodstock Film Festival, Audience Award at the Hamburg Film Festival, Best Foreign Film Salerno, and is on track for theatrical distribution in late 2023.

MIDNIGHT SPECIAL

At the height of the great Depression, Alan Lomax and his father John choose to break the mold of American society by recording and producing the music of the first great Blues musician, Huddie Ledbetter, (aka Leadbelly). From his prison cell where they first recorded him, to the National Theatre in Washington DC, the three set out on a quest to change American music and society despite rampant racism, a crashing economy, and their own internal struggles.
Midnight Special is a musical biopic that explores the remarkable life of the original blues legend and the father and son team of Harvard educated musicologists who discovered him. It is a story of unlikely friendship in a daunting time; a story of loyalty and betrayal, racism and classicism, broken boundaries and dreams. It is ultimately a story of why blues music is  American at it’s most raw and complicated.

NIGHTINGALE AND THE TOWER

Nightingale and the Tower (NATT) was originally conceived as an electronic, intergenerational chamber opera, co-written by Rebecca Comerford, Mikael Jorgensen of Wilco, Jason Trueting of Sō Percussion and Beth Meyers of Damsel, for members of the Metropolitan Opera and Ojai Youth Opera Company when it premiered in 2019. Since its inception, NATT has received critical acclaim and is in the process of being published to be performed by other opera companies around the world. Exploring the themes of technology and nature, the advent of the internet and  AI on psyches of children, our rejection of individuality for conformity and how modern society is threading a fine balance between the two in order to survive, NATT's adaption to cinema is in new stages of development. Both an original libretto and score are being fused to an animated feature film that will reach audiences of children and adults alike; sharing a message of curiosity, wonder and wariness when encountering the vast lures of technology in the digital age.
